Vietnam, my first impression

13 juli 2017 - Mui Ne, Vietnam

The airport
I had a lot off stress to get in Vietnam. I had to go to an office to ask for my visa. They took my passport and I had to wait for 25 minutes  to get my approval, or not! The thing is, no one really speaks english here, so communication is difficult. I took a taxi from the AirPort to my hostel, the easy way! And my god, I thought I was going to die. Scooters and people EVERYWHERE!  It was crazy. What am I doing here? I'm going back to Australia! It was such a culture shock.

Ho chi minh
Ho chi minh, or Saigon called,  the biggest city of Vietnam, with around 8 million people. The first thing I noticed was that a lot of people or eating, cooking and sitting outside their house on the streets. My hostel was 20 min. from the center and because I was meeting up with my friend Gemma I started walking. No clue what I could expect. Well, it was weird. What I said earlier: people everywhere. No one is stopping when you cross te streets.. You just run. Yes, you just start walking on the street even though cars, buses or scooters are coming. They just drive around you! You see 4 people on 1 scooters, even kids and baby's ! So you could say That I was happy when I got to Gemma safely! I was so happy to see here and I off nowhere I was smiling and 'crying' at the same time. I just a few tears guys. Give me a break! We lived together in Sydney for 2.5 months, and we got really close and already made plans to visit eachother at home, we' re just a package!

The next day Gemma, her boyfriend and me went to the war museum. It cost us 15.000 dong, so 0.40 eurocent. The war museum was sad, I knew things about the Vietnam war but I learned so much more and feel that the Vietnam war not that 'important' is in the world. The things I saw and read were fierce. Untill today children can be born with a disability or deviation because of agent orange, a chemical what the americans sprayed in Vietnam during the war. This has cost mayor health problems since then. The health problems can be seen untill 4 generation, so , so sad! Just imagine that your baby can be born without arms or feet because of the war years ago.
The second day in Ho chi Minh we went to te chu chi tunnels. On our way we stopped at a place where people with a disability ( because of agent orange) worked. It was kind of a day care for these people and the made amazing art! The cu chi tunnels were so small. We saw original tunnels and we could not really fit in, so small. It was fascinating to see lived here. We saw all the traps they made during the war to kill the enemy. ( you Will see on Facebook) At the end of the trip we could go into the tunnels as well, this was was bigger then normal but it was scary to get in because you go under the ground and crawled 40 meters in the dark but I did it!

Mui ne
5 hours south-West of Ho chi minh there is a small place called: Mui ne. The bustrip was Nice because I had a sleepingbus. The only thing was that the busdriver kept speeking  in Vietnamese, so yeah, you just follow the rest if you have a break. Well I just assumed we had a break because no one told me something in English. I bought 15 mini pancakes at a really old lady, for 80 cents. The only thing he could asked me was ' name hotel'. I got dropped of at the hotel, that was really Nice. Vietnam has 1 highway so the 5 hours in the bus I saw houses everywhere left and right. Mui ne is getting bigger and bigger, they want to make this a really touristy place, and you can see that. Resorts everywhere, white people everywhere, clean streets and my room is full with Dutch people. The only bad thing is That the Russians are taking over the place. I don't really like them, oops.

Last but not least. I met a couple from denmark in the bus and they where like ' are you travelling on your own?' Well guys, I would recommend it everyone. It is so nice to travel on your own, you can choose where you want to go, when you want to go and you meet so much more people then when you're travelling together or in a couple. And I have never felt alone! Well I'm going to jump in the pool, see ya!!
